Do you remember that motivational phrase that keeps appearing this time of the year: “Summer bodies are made in winter”? This is meant to motivate us to work out during winter, just like this article is meant to motivate you to start taking care of your skin right now. Just like summer bodies are made in winter, great skin in your 50s is made in your young age.

Sure, you can always go under the scalpel in your 50s or use the most expensive skin care products, but the truth is that nothing will preserve (or restore) the natural glow of your skin like starting to take care of it as early on as possible. Without further ado, let’s see what you can do in your 30s to have fabulous skin in your 50s:

Eat well

Try to incorporate as many raw fruits and veggies in your diet and eat less red meat and animal fats. Raw fruits are rich in antioxidants and vitamin C, which help stimulate your natural production of collagen – the substance that is responsible for keeping your skin smooth.

If you want to lose weight, do it now

In our 30s, the skin is still supple and can tighten pretty much on its own. If you wait until your 50s to lose weight, you will have to deal with saggy skin and, trust me, that’s an ordeal. You don’t have to lose 50 pounds in a week; do it gradually by adopting a healthy lifestyle – this will help you skin more than you think.

Exercise as often as possible

And, I would add, incorporate physical activity in your routine. The earlier to decide that sport needs to be a part of your life, the easier it will be to stick to this even in your 50s or 60s. Exercising regularly doesn’t just give you that post-gym youthful glow, it also helps your blood circulation (which improves the appearance of your skin), burns fat, helps you prevent saggy skin, and keeps cellulite away from your body.

Steer clear of the sun

Nothing ages the skin like UV radiation, so make a habit of never leaving home without a hat and sunscreen. Use 50+ SPF sunscreen when you go to the beach and 30 on a regular day. Also, remember to protect all the skin that is exposed to the sun, not just your face.

Do all these and your older self will definitely thank you!
